Miss Match by Erynn Mangum

Miss Match: A Lauren Holbrook Novel Miss Match: A Lauren Holbrook Novel by Erynn Mangum

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a fun read! This was a quirky, hilarious story of a young Christian single woman who is totally happy being single yet finds herself having fun matchmaking her friends. Working at a photography studio managed by her best friend, Lauren enjoys her carefree life. Yet she finds herself getting inspired when she sees potential couples that she pushes toward each other in her matchmaking attempts. A lot of fun and humor. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series - Rematch.

The Secret's in the Sauce by Linda Evans Shepherd, Eva Marie Everson

The Secrets in the Sauce: A Novel (Potluck Catering Club, The) The Secrets in the Sauce: A Novel by Linda Evans Shepherd

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was another great installment in the Potluck Club books. The Secret's in the Sauce is actually the first in a new series called The Potluck Catering Club series. It picks up where the Potluck Club series ends.

It was great to get back into the lives of the characters and learn new things about them. The ever-present struggle that Donna faces with 2 men wanting her and her not sure who to choose. Lisa Leann's secret from her past comes back to haunt her while Lizzie finds her own life spiraling out of control. Evie gets used to the married life while having to deal with her husband's ex being back in town.

A great read - recommended - AFTER reading the original Potluck Club books.

Blood Lies by Daniel Kalla

Blood Lies Blood Lies by Daniel Kalla

Dr. Ben Dafoe finds himself the prime suspect in a murder when his DNA is found at the crime scene. Knowing he didn't commit the murder, he attempts to clear his name by trying to find out who the real killer is. This was a pretty fast-paced suspense thriller and whodunit. It wasn't really a medical thriller per se but more of a general suspense book.

The Song of Hannah by Eva Etzioni-Halevy

The Song of Hannah: A Novel The Song of Hannah: A Novel by Eva Etzioni-Halevy

My review

This was not at all how Hannah is portrayed in the Bible. The story itself was rather interesting in light of historical times and what life might have been like in Israel at this time, but most of it was pure fiction and not what the Bible has to say about the characters. The focus seemed to be more on the lust of the characters and their unfulfilled sensual desires. The story was told from 2 viewpoints - that of Hannah, the mother of Samuel, and her rival wife Pninnah. Alternating between the 2, we see the lives of women who must share a husband.

Overall, I continued reading the book more out of curiousity to see what would happen. The writing itself was good, but it left a bad taste in my mouth as far as the characters go.

The Deadliest Strain by Jan Coffey

The Deadliest Strain The Deadliest Strain by Jan Coffey

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars

Pretty good medical thriller - people are dying suddenly of necrotizing fasciitis - a flesh-eating disease. Homeland Security investigates and finds that one of Saddam's scientists had discovered the bacteria behind this disease in her lab. They track her down to find out what she knows about the disease and who might be behind it.

There was a lot of background about the Kurdish people and the tragedies that happened during Sadaam's reign. While the book was fictional, some of the history was not.

The Convenient Groom by Denise Hunter

The Convenient Groom: A Nantucket Love Story The Convenient Groom: A Nantucket Love Story by Denise Hunter

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved, loved, loved this book! Christian romance about a counselor getting married at the same time that her book on relationships is published. When her groom jilts her at the altar, her neighbor steps in as the groom to keep her from problems surrounding her book release.

The writing was well-done and the characters seemed real. I found myself wanting to shake them and get them to say things they were thinking but not saying to each other. I stayed up until midnight to finish this book which says a lot for this girl who needs her sleep. Though a Christian romance, the Christianity in the book was not obvious. Well-written and easy-to-read, I highly recommend for those who like romance novels.
