I have not done well in completing reading challenges this year. Even the ones that I'm hosting I have not done well on. For the Medical Mystery Madness challenge, I have only read 2 out of the 5 at this point, with 2 months left to go. On the Chick Lit Challenge, I have read 5 out of the 10, with 3 months left to go. I don't think I even got 1 book read for the Themed Challenge. I dropped out of the What's In a Name Challenge, though I did get 1 book read for that. I completed 3 books for the Christian Readers Challenge, with 6 that were on my original list. I wanted to sign up for the Non-Fiction Five, but I was doing so poorly on challenges that I didn't even bother with it this time. My reading seems to have gone down this year which is probably why I haven't done well with challenges.
The question is, as we near the end of 2009 and all the challenges start gearing up for 2010, should I try to join any? And along those lines, is there any interest in having the Chick Lit Challenge again in 2010? What about the Medical Mystery Madness challenge? I have put polls in the sidebar to see if there is enough interest for running these again. If I do host these challenges, I plan to have them be year-long challenges.

I had problems this year with challenges also. I had tried to limit myself, but I just lost interest in reading for a while. I think it was because I had books "planned" for each month and didn't allow time for spontaneous reading. I did manage to finish the Medical Mystery challenge though! I'd like to see you continue that one.
I seriously am considering not joining any challenges this coming year. I haven't done well challenge-wise for the last two years.
Hopefully you'll get enough interest in your challenges. They are a great community builder, not to mention it's fun coming up with lists of book ideas. :-)
I'm terrible at challenges! The only one I ever seem to succeed at is the RIP. I think it's because I don't normally read a lot of spooky books and it just seems like the perfect time of year to alter that problem is in the fall. So, my experience is . . . do what works for you. If you're finding that one challenge is more fun than another, just stick with what you enjoy. For a while, I totally "unchallenged" myself. It's fine to not do a single one, if that's waht feels right to you.
I've always had a bit of an issue with challenges. Last year, I only did one (What's in a Name) and this year, I took a leap and tried two. One being your Chick-Lit challenge and the other, the second installment of the Name one. I'm doing ok, but I knocked most of them out in the first few months of the year. My problem is that I don't like being "forced" to read certain books, I guess is how to explain it. That, and I'm such a moody reader that I never know what I want to read next. So lining up books is sort of hard for me. I think it's me though, not yours or anyone else's challenges. Just a quirk of mine :)
I am starting to get back into my reading, I think fall and winter will be better than the summer was. Maybe I'll come close to completing them, at least! :) I like that yours are for the whole year, and that they are flexible (they are, I hope! I might sub one of the new Potluck ones I got today for one on my list, hahaha!)
Hope you find some books you really enjoy reading, and have time to read :)
