Faking Grace by Tamara Leigh

It seems like forever since I've actually finished a book. I just haven't been getting into books lately. This is my first finished book for March.

Faking Grace Faking Grace by Tamara Leigh

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars

Maizy Grace needs a part-time job so she applies at a Christian publishing company though she hasn't really practiced her Christianity in years. She attempts to fake her way into being a solid Christian. Meanwhile her other part-time job at the local paper wants her to reveal the steamy dark side of Christians by reporting the gossip she hears. Can she maintain her cover? Or will the Christians she work with show her what she's been missing?

Overall, I enjoyed this book and it kept me turning the pages. Fiction hasn't really been grabbing me lately, so it was nice that I actually liked this book and wanted to keep reading it.

35 and Counting

Recently I celebrated my 35th birthday. I had heard over the years that this age can be a significant year when it comes to the whole "biological clock" issue that women supposedly deal with in their 30's. When younger, I was told that often at age 35, women who had decided not to have children found that their biological clock kicked in around this age and they changed their mind, deciding they wanted a baby after all. Having pretty strong feelings on the subject myself, I was skeptical, particularly after talking to others who had bypassed this age without having a biological clock ticking at them.

Now that I have reached the age of 35, I find that I am even more firm in my desire not to be a mother. I have no sense of a biological clock ticking away. If anything, this shows me that we are all uniquely created, with our own desires and feelings. Not everyone fits into the same mold. We don't come out of the same cookie cutter. As such, we should respect each other's differences and not expect that everyone will have the same desires and ambitions in life. What is important to one person may be no big deal to another. Often I think when something is particularly important to us, we can't imagine that others don't feel as strongly as we do. Yet everyone is unique in their views and values. We need to allow each other to be ourselves.

Seizing Your Divine Moment by Erwin McManus

Seizing Your Divine Moment: Dare to Live a Life of Adventure Seizing Your Divine Moment: Dare to Live a Life of Adventure by Erwin Raphael McManus

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kind of a "carpe diem" sort of book, it talks about seizing the opportunities that are presented to us instead of just letting life happen. The author uses the example of Jonathan in the Bible in his decision to confront the Philistines when the rest of the Israelite army (including his father the king) were paralyzed with fear. Seizing the moment, Jonathan then started a movement within the Israelite army and they were able to defeat the Philistines as a result. When we seize divine opportunities that God gives us, often it is the catalyst to get others involved and make real change happen.
